Club registration

Southside Volleyball Club, with head coach and clinician Guy Enriques, is sponsoring a Progressive Junior Volleyball Clinic for boys and girls in grades 2-8. Clinic dates are 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 7 at Hilo Armory, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Dec. 18 at Panaewa Courts and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 19 at Hilo Armory.

The fee is $20 a day, with a $10 discount for those registered for all three days. Sign-ups will be a the door beginning a half-hour before the start times.

Release forms will be required and available at registration, and participants are asked to bring lunch and a water bottle.

According to a release, clinicians will emphasize ball-control, strong communication emphasis and being aggressive, and “at this age a major goal is to increase each players area of play (cover more court), become very vocal and be aggressive in their play on the ball.” For more information, contact coach Guy Enriques at 217-2253 or at enriques@hawaii.rr.com.

Korytosky to hold

Dec. soccer clinics

Former University of Hawaii at Hilo men’s soccer coach Ziggy Korytosky will return in December to host a soccer academy on Dec.6-8 at Amauulu Field in Hilo.

A keiki clinic hours will run 3:30-5:30 p.m. Dec, 6, and the hours will be 9-11 a.m. Dec. 7-8. The fee is $85.

An advanced camp for ages 8-14 will meet 3:30-5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 8-11 a.m. Dec. 7-8. The fee is $105.

Those who register by Nov. 29 will receive a $10 discount.

Donald Gee aced the 201-yard 16th hole Tuesday at Volcano Golf & Country Club using a 2-hybrid.

John Cochran witnessed Gee’s first hole-in-one.

—Russell Paiva aced the par 3, 163-yard 13th hole on Nov. 23 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course. He used a 6 iron to make the shot while playing with the Fil-Am Golf Club.

Witnessing Paiva’s second hole-in-one were Jaime Bosque, Virgil Inocencio, Bill Schwartz, Santo Masulit and R. Caoagdan.

—Mark Coates of Hilo aced the par 3, 158-yard 10th hole on Nov. 24 at Volcano Golf & Country Club. He used a 6 iron to record his first hole-in-one.

Adult basketball

league at Piihonua

A recreational adult basketball league is forming to play games on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Piihonua Gym at Carvalho Park, beginning in January.

The first eight teams to register will play.

Hilo Little League

registration ongoing

Hilo Little League is opening baseball registration for players, managers and coaches interested in the Minor and Major divisions for ages 8-12 from November through Jan. 3.

League play is projected to begin mid-January, and the deadline for manager or coach applications is Dec. 10.

Bears softball season

The Piopio Bears Athletic Association is taking registration for girls softball for ages 10-12.

Experience is not required, and coaches will teach basic fundamental rules of the game and sportsmanship.
